Hurricane and Severe Weather Planning: Better Safe Than Sorry

One thing we've learned after three years of full-time RV living and now living in a mobile home on Florida's Gulf Coast is the importance of having a plan for the possibility of having to leave home in a hurry, no matter where you are. Hurricanes, Severe Weather, and Wildfires have become the new normal and are happening with increased frequency and ferocity as global temperatures rise.

When Hurricane Debby knocked on the door last week, we knew our home would likely escape the cone of wind destruction. However, we also anticipated that we would be on the dirty side of the storm, where the rain would be heavy and the likelihood of nighttime tornados was high. We decided to hope for the best and prepare for the worst by moving ten miles further inland to spend the night in Tammy's Parents' brick home.

Our hearts go out to all of the people dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Debby, and we count ourselves fortunate for suffering little more than inconvenience and minor tree limb damage. For what it's worth, we wanted to share the checklist that we now refer to when menacing weather comes our way.
