City and County Park Campgrounds: Cheap, Safe and Convenient

When traveling across the country in an RV, consider city and county parks as an option for cheap, safe, and convenient overnight campground stops. With a good co-pilot and an internet connection, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that even the smallest towns will likely have campsites available, often with hookup options. While en route from Russellville, Arkansas, to Colorado, Tammy found a City Park in Sayre, Oklahoma, using our RV Life Trip Wizard App.

We ended up staying for two nights at $12 per night for a 50amp electric site. The park was built in the 1940s, likely to attract highway travelers along Route 66. Roughly 80 RV sites are surrounded by a well-groomed city park, municipal golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, and miniature golf course. Most amenities were closed for the season, but it was still a great place to rest and catch up on computer work. The only catch came in the form of painful goat head stickers just about everywhere you stepped.

The most iconic and memorable feature in Sayre was, without a doubt, the Grain Silo sitting next to the railroad tracks in the center of town.  As artists, we seek creative inspiration everywhere we go. The photographs we captured of the silo are almost certain to be used in future painting compositions.
